Sunday 10th of July saw a very memorable day in Thaxted Park’s long Pennant History with the Men’s A2 team winning promotion to the 2017 Simpson Cup. Current weather conditions caused a disturbance through the week leading up to the final which forced Golf SA to moved the finals from Royal Adelaide to the better drained Glenelg Golf Club. The Thaxted Park team of Matthew Rolton, Matthew Hey, Kieren Barratt, Ben Ash, Jake Munn, Jamie Trezise and Andrew Munn were hopeful of a good performance after beating their finals opponents Mt Osmond during round 7 comfortably 5 and a half to 1 and a half a week prior on home soil.

A much tighter contest was to unfold before a fantastic crowd dominated by around 30 Thaxted Park supporters which dwarfed even the support for the home team Glenelg who inturn were competing for Simpson Cup honours on the other side of the course. On completion of the regular 18 holes the contest was poised as closely as possible with 3 wins for both Thaxted Park and Mt Osmond, the number 2 match of Kieren Barratt and Nathan Ramsay was forced to play a 19th hole to decide the contest. Our very experienced youngster, Kieren drew on all his State representative experience and calmly made a solid par into the 1st playoff hole which was enough to claim victory for our boys.

Well done team! With the Club now competing back in the top flight for 2017 you should all be very proud of your achievement, caddies supporters and of course Darryl Scott who bought his experience of top level sport to the team ethos and did a wonderful job looking after the guys throughout the entire season.
